SUMMARY:CERIS workshop on illicit drugs: challenges and opportunities for i
 ntroducing innovative and science-based approaches
DESCRIPTION:CERIS\, DG Home's Community for European Research and Innovatio
 n for Security will host a workshop on illicit drugs: challenges and oppor
 tunities for introducing innovative and science-based approaches on 21 Feb
 ruary 2024.\n\nThere are two main triggers of this workshop: recent EU pol
 icy developments on drugs and the coming change of mandate of the European
  Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA). Thanks to the la
 tter\, the role of EMCDDA in the overall EU security research cycle relate
 d to drugs and drug abuse will be strengthened. Thus the main objectives o
 f this workshop are to:\n\n 	raise awareness within CERIS about the new ro
 le of EMCDDA and bring the Agency and CERIS closer together\,\n 	showcase 
 what has been going on in research in this domain\, both at the EU level (
 either through EMCDDA or funded through the EU security research programme
  in the area of Fighting Crime and Terrorism\, FCT\, and Border Management
 \, BM) and at the MS level\,\n 	discuss about possibilities of bringing di
 fferent initiatives together and increasing cooperation\,\n 	address ways 
 through which these research activities can provide support to the EU poli
 cy and practitioners in this domain\, and\n 	network and brainstorm togeth
 er on other possible ways forward\, improvements\, gaps and needs.\n\nMain
  aspects that will be addressed are: EU drugs policy\, analysis of drug us
 e and markets through data from novel information sources\, as well as dru
 gs-related forensics\, organised crime and sensors.\n\nFor more informatio
