ENACT at SMI2G 2026: Strengthening Innovation Uptake in European Security Research

ENACT sponsored and participated in the SMI2G Brokerage Event held in Paris on 23-24 April 2026. Representing the project, André Alegria (Polícia Judiciária, Portugal) joined the expert panel, “From Innovation to Impact – Strengthening Innovation Uptake in European Security Research”, while INOV, VICOMTECH and EOS engaged with attendees, highlighting the various ENACT reports and activities through the dedicated stand.

During the panel, highlights included a discussion on one of the primary challenges for European security research and the wider ecosystem is not innovation, but ensuring uptake into real operational contexts. This leads to a persistent gap between solution development and actual operational needs, often because end-users are not fully embedded throughout the innovation lifecycle.

To overcome these barriers, the panel explored several strategic priorities such as practitioner-driven continuity, coordinated deployment, validation through engagement, and the human element.

Throughout the event, ENACT showcased its suite of resources designed to reduce fragmentation within the Fight against Crime and Terrorism (FCT) sector. This included the launch of a new Flash Report on the FCT Stakeholder Ecosystem, providing a “who’s who” guide to help innovators navigate the complex landscape of EU-funded research and a complementary article on LinkedIn.
