Flash Report: Country Profile – Italy

Following the launch of its Country Profile Flash Report series, ENACT continues with this second edition, providing an in-depth overview of a Member State’s position within the European Fight against Crime and Terrorism (FCT) research and innovation landscape.

This country profile highlights Italy’s strong and strategically influential role in European security research, reflected in its high participation levels and above-average success rate in Horizon Europe security projects. Italian organisations are particularly active in tackling economic crime, organised crime, cybercrime (including Dark Net investigations), and CBRN threats. Italy’s contribution is driven by a diverse ecosystem of law enforcement agencies, research centres, academia, industry, and innovative SMEs, ensuring operationally relevant and application-focused outcomes.

Functionally, Italy demonstrates notable strengths in investigation and forensics, intelligence and data gathering, and training and exercises. Technologically, it shows robust expertise in data analytics, data storage and exchange, internet-based investigation, and digital forensics, closely aligned with evolving European security priorities.
